How it all began

In the mid-1950s, brothers Peter and Nick Tzouvelakos left war-torn Greece for a brighter future in Montreal. They initially found work cooking in the restaurants of other Greek immigrants. Inspired by their success, they dreamed of one day having a restaurant of their own.

After a decade of tireless work, the brothers scouted the perfect location: a humble waterfront restaurant, right on the banks of the St. Lawrence river. In 1967—the year of the iconic Expo ‘67: “Man and His World”—they launched LaSalle Drive-In, and the rest as they say is history.

Finally, the dream came true

Over time, LaSalle Drive-In thrived, attracting a steady stream of customers to its doors. From its modest beginnings as a simple hot dog and burger joint, the restaurant grew, diversifying its menu to include new items such as poutines, subs & smoked meat sandwiches, and authentic Greek cuisine.

Peter’s son Johnny Tzouvelakos cherished spending time at LaSalle Drive-In with his father. He began working there at the age of 16, devoted to the family business. When co-founder Nick retired in 1988, Johnny became Peter’s official partner.

After 22 years of dedication, Peter decided to retire, selling his share to son-in-law George Tsimiklis in 1989. This transition marked a new chapter for LaSalle Drive-In as it continued its legacy as a family-run business, now under the stewardship of the next generation.

When times are tough

The catastrophic Ice Storm of 1998 left a lot of people hungry and without water or electricity. Running on our generator, we cooked-up free meals for anyone who walked through our doors.

Every year on Christmas, it’s also been a LaSalle-Drive In tradition to offer complimentary meals to those in need.

A waterfront restaurant with unbeatable views

Located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, LaSalle Drive-In is your go-to waterfront restaurant in Montreal.
Come for a comforting meal and view the Lachine Rapids as you dine.
Did we mention the sunsets? They’re stunning, and regarded as some of the best in the city.
